We Have A New Name

As we head into 2020, it is with much excitement that we can announce that we have changed our name! High 5 Sports will now be called Venture Camps. Venture Camps will be our most recognisable name and brand, and also our PE provision and after-school club provision will be referred to as Venture Sports.

So why did we change the name?

Well to be completely honest, we absolutely loved the name High 5 and didn’t want to change it for the world! Over the years it has become well known in the communities in which we work and a familiar reference point amongst children who gladly say “I go to High 5!!” when they talk about us.

Quite simply, as we have continued to grow as a company, certain steps have meant that we have needed to register the business for a trademark..

As you can imagine.. we weren’t the first person to think of the name High 5.. Yet we felt we had to press on and fingers crossed see if we can get the name through un-opposed.

Hoping to slip through the trademark net, fully covered in camo and wearing night vision goggles.. we came under opposition very early on in the application from a very well established brand. Un-phased by the challenge, the team decided to arm themselves to the teeth with nerf guns and storm the headquarters of the opposition. Hiding behind Stewart, our biggest coach… we ran in a linear formation and opened fire. Despite all our efforts it turns out you can’t win a trademark dispute with nerf guns and bow and arrows.

So.. in all seriousness, we decided to see these events as an opportunity rather than a issue. It was clear early on that our opposition would not let us co-exist with them, despite in our opinion, them having a completely different company and offering a completely different service to what we do.

A new name offered an opportunity for us to really express who we are and what we do now, which is much more than just sports coaching. Our camps have become a much bigger experience, getting children active in many different ways and engaging many children who in many instances might not like competitive sports.  Of course we considered all the close alternatives to High 5. We felt giving the kids a “High 6” at the end of the day just didn’t make sense and might end up bruising the single finger on the other hand. High Flyers or Fly 5 was on the cards, but sounded a little too much like a cheerleading squad for our liking.

We looked for a name that we felt represents who we are. The word Venture means: a risky or daring journey or undertaking. Something that represents our holiday camps perfectly and fits well with all the new theme days we have planned for 2020.  Many of our days are much more than just sports. They are activities that at many times, stretch children’s capabilities and pushes them to try new things and accomplish bigger successes.

So to sum up, yes we have a new website (we were going to update it anyways). We have new booking system, that will communicate much better with you when you book on for camps or clubs, also remembering your child’s details so it’s quick and easy to book next time.  We have NOT been taken over by new owners, we have NOT changed hands as a company; we are still the same team, we still carry the same ethos, culture and vision as always. If you call us, a friendly american lady still answers the phone! (Meagan) and our coaches are still the same friendly team.  Of course there will still be some High 5 logos here and there.. as we change all our kit and all the flags and banners this will take several months to do. We also know people will still call us High 5 for sometime and we don’t mind that either.

With the new website, you can now book all year round for camps. We have already added February Half Term to it, and will be adding Easter, May Half Term and the Summer shortly, to help all the parents who like to plan ahead. To pay for a club, simply go to the clubs page and search for your school. Hopefully it will all be much easier.

Happy new year all

FAQs

What does the schedule of a holiday camp day look like?

Following registration, Children take part in organised warm up games and activities before then playing more fun activities related to the theme of the day. Break time is usually around 10:45am with lunch between 12:30pm - 1:30pm. All activities throughout the day are organised and led by coaches, with the children participating in teams or individually with clear objectives of every activity.

What are the ratios of coaches to children?

We follow a 1:15 ratio when working with children, however we aim to keep it to 1:12 on most days where possible. We have a minimum of three staff per location.

Do all of your staff have the necessary checks?

All of our staff hold a current DBS check and lead coaches of each venue have a paediatric first aid certificate. A large majority of our lead coaches hold degrees in Physical education or related disciplines, some are qualified teachers working in schools throughout term time.

How do I pay with Childcare Vouchers or Tax free Childcare?

To pay with childcare vouchers and tax free childcare, all you need to do is select which sessions you would like on the website then apply the coupon code for childcare vouchers, for this season it is MAY2026. Then you have 5 business days to make the transfer with your voucher company. You will then get an email to confirm you booking when the vouchers have been received.

How much is a camp day?

This depends on the camp venue it ranges from £30-£37 a day per child.

Does my child need a packed lunch?

Yes please, We play hard all day so the children need lots to eat. We give the children a morning break so please pack a heathy snack to eat. We do ask, that you do not pack any nuts or nut products in your child’s lunch bag, and no fizzy drinks too. The children as well need a refillable water bottle to use through out the day.

What clothing does my child need to bring?

It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child is provided with appropriate clothing and footwear for their selected activity; usually this is simply jogging trousers, t-shirt and sports trainers. Children must bring their own shin pads when playing football. They might want to bring an extra change of clothes and a towel to the wet and wacky days.

Are there any consent forms I need to fill out?

You will now be asked to complete an online consent form the first time you book your child with our new booking system. We also ask you complete a paper copy on your first day so we have both accessible on location. We like to also have a paper copy as this is our first point of reference when outside playing games, if we need to access any medical information. You can find a link to the consent form in our footer.

If I booked already can I change the day I would like?

Usually it isn't a problem for us to transfer your booking to another day. Simply email and request and we will do our best to make this happen for you.

Are the venues safe and secure?

We only use venues that are closed to the public, usually primary or secondary schools. Following registration either the front gate and/or front door is locked. We only use certain halls, fields and areas of the school and at all times children at supervised. Children are not allowed to wander the school or go into classrooms.

Do you have a new booking system and how does it work?

When you go to book for clubs or holiday camps, you will be now directed to a new booking system on the Active Network Software. Following your first time booking, the system will store your details, making booking in future much easier. This new system allows us to communicate better the days you have booked and allows us to securely set the number of places for each venue for each day. So please be sure to book early in case a day fills up.

My Children have been going to these camps for several years and absolutely love them! The staff are so friendly and super organised!

From the moment you sign your child in at camp you can tell how good the day is going to be. You see all the Karts and tracks all set up and the coaches immediately connect with the children and make them feel so at home!

Sian, Parent

My boys always come home happy and worn out! Which is a good thing! They always have the best time and tell us the different things they have done throughout the day.

We've recently booked Venture Camp in Tenterden for the Easter holiday and our boy loved it from day 1. He was upset that I came to collect early and wanted to stay as long as possible from then onwards. Staff were super friendly, knew his name and created a fun environment. He was buzzing with excitement about his day and I'm so glad we chose to send him there. Bring on the summer holidays :-)

It was my sons first experience of attending a club, I thought he would be anxious as he can be quiet at times but I was so wrong. He woke up every morning excited about going, he loves being outdoors and loves activity’s especially sport. He was so keen of going again and he said he made new friends which was lovely to hear. The fact he’s asked to go again means a great deal. I’ve already recommended venture camp to another parent at the school. He’s already looking forward to May.

We love Venture Camp Sandwich! The staff are super welcoming and fun, there is a range of activities, lots of sports but also some crafty stuff and our kid looks forward to going in the holidays.

I was really pleased that we chose Tenterden Venture Camps for my son for some days in the holidays He came back having had a fun day, outdoors with activities to take part in if he chose but also the freedom to just play. I liked that there was options for single day bookings as well as multiple and the 8:30am drop off. The staff were very friendly and I felt over all it was very professional.

Venture camps has been an amazing holiday club which allows children to socialise out of school with other children. My son does not mix well with others so being able to keep this up for him is of the upmost importance to me. He is autistic and adhd so his body needs the exercise and brain thrives on challenges. He would be glued to his computer without Venture Camps

Fantastic holiday camp! Friendly staff, great activities and a fun, safe environment. My son loved every minute and came home smiling every day! Highly organised, caring team with loads of exciting activities.

My son attended the Bearsted camp in February half term. He enjoyed it so much and was very excited to attend again during the Easter break. I will continue using this camp for all future half terms. The communication, staff and range of activities are all top notch. My son always comes home happy and well worn out. Couldn't ask for better

A fun, welcoming environment that my daughter is happy to go to. She loves the activities and the familiarity of the camp and people who work there plus the community that it creates - she meets kids from other schools in the area which is nice.

All 3 of my children have loved going to Venture Camps. From all the fun activities, new friends and the lovely staff (Stuart is the biggest hit with my kids!). Plus Meagan makes everything easy from my side with booking or any issues that I have. Highly recommend.

My two boys (6 and 7 years old) have been at the Tenterden camp a number of times now. Its a great little setting with a friendly feel and I never worry about them when they are there. Dropping them off is quick and easy as they love to attend, which is a huge relief as I need to drop off and dash to my job! The staff are also very professional and are engaging with the kids. This is a great holiday club option for us as a family.
